To PS14 students, teachers, and families,
To my 1st graders,
What can I say? It has been an amazing residency at PS14! Thank you so much for welcoming me into your classrooms and for allowing me to share with you all my passion for art and art making. Your enthusiasm and appreciation for art and art making and its ability to explore and express thoughts and ideas is an inspiration for me. I also want to thank you for the opportunity to see and get to know Corona, Queens! I will always be grateful for the trust that you gave me in allowing me to push and guide you all as young artists. And what intelligent, thoughtful and prolific artists you all are!
In a short amount of time (5 weeks!) together, we were able to learn and use various materials such as oil pastels, watercolor, inks, brayers, tape, markers, different kinds of paper and more to explore exciting techniques and processes like still-life drawing, resists, multimedia collage, and printmaking. You created major collaborative projects as well as intimate personal works with ease and patience. You have grown so much from our early mark making exercises into creating uniquely sophisticated flora and fauna and their vibrant environments that bring to mind the illuminated Louis C. Tiffany lamps that were our inspiration. I am extremely proud to showcase all of your work at the Queens Museum.
